Goals setting for 2019
Are you working on your personal and business goals for 2019?
Did you achieve everything you set out to in 2018?
Many people set the same New Year’s resolutions over and over again. Research from Franklin Covey indicates that half of all resolutions fail and one third of resolution-setters don’t even make it past end of January.
Clearly, if you have a goal or resolution that eludes you year after year, you’re not alone.
Roadblocks to achieving your goals
It could be a weight loss goal, a debt reduction goal, a revenue goal or a weekly date night with your spouse goal—regardless of what the personal goal is, it’s likely that you don’t achieve it for one (or more) of the following reasons:
- You don’t make the goal a priority. You have so many other priorities that your big goals consistently fall short.
- The goal is vague (i.e. ‘I want to lose weight’ vs. ‘I want to lose 20 pounds by June 30, 2019’).
- You don’t know why you want to achieve the goal. Perhaps it has been on your goal list for so long you don’t even remember your initial ‘why’. If that’s the case, you may want to consider crossing it off your list and instead focus on other goals you are making happen/kicking ass on.
- Your goal is ho-hum.
- Someone else set the goal for you.
I totally understand all of the above. I used to run through the year on fast mode, my goals sitting at home in a journal I wrote in on New Years Day and hadn’t looked at since. It was no wonder I wasn’t making progress on those goals.
However, this is no longer the case for me. I now achieve almost all of my goals.
This past year, out of the ten major health and wealth goals, I achieved eight of them! Hey, there’s always room for improvement, but 80% isn’t too shabby!
Let’s crush your goals in 2019
How did I make it to 80% goal achievement? I used coaching, prioritization, and scheduling.
