My new friend, Russ Haworth, is the host of The Family Business Podcast and a contributor to many family business publications. Russ was writing a book on the emotional and psychological challenges of succession planning for family business owners when he came up with the idea to create a podcast. On The Family Business Podcast podcast, he interviews family business leaders and advisors from all over the world to discuss everything from culture to succession planning, mindfulness, communication, governance and more. Russ is based in the UK.
In this episode, Russ and I talk about why and how he started the podcast, he shares some of his favorite stories and resources and tells us what he’s learning along the way.

Guest Bio:
Russ is a chartered financial planner with fifteen years of experience in advising family businesses.
He has worked within the financial planning arms of regional, national and multi-national accountancy firms, and has provided advice to National Lottery and Euro Millions jackpot winners while on the panel of advisers appointed by Camelot.
Having worked in large and medium-sized businesses, Russ became frustrated that it was sometimes difficult to deliver the coherent and personalised service he felt his clients deserved. He joined Proposito Financial Planning as part of the company’s own succession planning exercise in 2015. Now at a much smaller firm, Russ is able to tailor solutions and provide bespoke financial planning advice to family business owners throughout the South West.
He lives in the South West with his partner, Shelly, and their two daughters, Mia and Isabel. He enjoys running and cycling, food and wine.
