In this bonus episode, I’m introducing six things to help you lead strong. If you follow my podcast or blog, you know that I coach family business successors transitioning into leadership roles, along with entrepreneurs and other leaders within non-family owned businesses. After coaching a variety of amazing leaders, I have found that six things consistently come up for each and every one of my clients—the six things I’m going to share with you in this episode.
This episode is for you if you are working on becoming a top leader at your business, nonprofit or in the community, and you ever find yourself thinking some version of the following:
- I am ready to level up, I’m just not sure how.
- I could do better than what I’m doing right now.
- I’m struggling with _____.
- I’m not sure if I should stay in my job or look for new opportunities.
- What is my purpose?
- My life feels chaotic.
- I’ll do it (whatever it is) tomorrow.
As a coach, I can assure you that these thoughts are not serving you. The six things I am going to share with you in this episode can help you replace these thoughts, and ultimately, lead strong.

-
Mindset
Do you know that there are feelings attached to your thoughts? For example, think to yourself, ‘I know what I should be doing, but I’m just not doing it.’ What feelings come up? Maybe angst, anxiety, shame? What actions result from these feelings in your life?
So often we don’t realize what our thoughts are doing and how they’re affecting us. I want to put an end to this unintentional thought sabotage for my clients. Though an intentional thought model (see link below under Resources) I help my clients understand how their thoughts lead to their feelings, their actions, and ultimately their results.
-
Self-confidence.
In my work coaching male and female leaders, we talk a lot about confidence and how it plays out in our lives. We explore how to recognize when we’re lacking self-confidence and how to build it on our own.
-
Living By Your Priorities.
I recently did an entire podcast episode dedicated to priorities (link below under Resources). This work on priorities is the basis for practically everything we do in life. Identifying and living by your priorities can make everything else in life so much easier—I promise.

-
Setting Boundaries.
Many of my high-achieving clients say ‘yes’ when they should be saying ‘no.’ They then look at their calendar and get anxious, wondering ‘how in the world am I going to do all this?’
Setting your priorities is incredibly important because it also determines the boundaries that you set for yourself and for others. To help you get started, get my Boundaries Worksheet below under Resources.
-
Defining What Success Looks Like For You
Oftentimes other people—our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings or other co-workers— define success for us. When this happens, we find that it’s really difficult to know when we’ve hit that mark. I suggest to my clients that they define success for themselves. This could be success as a parent, a spouse, a colleague or a business owner—in all areas, you get to decide what success is for you.
-
Tackling Tough Conversations.
If you work with your family, you know how important this technique is and I can help you get into the right mindset.
I will be diving into these topics in more depth in the coming months. I work on these things every single day with my clients. The themes are so common that I wanted to share them with you in hopes that if you recognize them in yourself, we might be able to connect to take a deeper dive just for you. This work can have an incredible impact on your life if you let it.
